Emmie was the name of my grandmother, a fierce but beautiful soul from Kilkenny. I spent years and years playing in her garden with my siblings, which in a weird way represented her personality. It was curated yet mysterious. Her house would give you the essence of bacon fat and whisky, but the garden was this brilliant green mixture of cut grass and bark after rainfall.
